Residence Life & Housing FAQs

Housing

Information about housing and moving in!

Can I take a tour of my room or get photos of it in the summer?

Our residences are occupied by camps, conferences, and events over the summer, so they are not available for tours or photos.

But you can view our floor plans here. Make sure to be logged into your Dickinson account to view plans. As well as on your hall’s page you can see more information including bathroom types, A/C type, and much more!

What furniture is provided?

A twin XL bed that can be adjusted for height, a desk, desk chair, and dresser(s)/closet/wardrobe.

Does my housing assignment have A/C?

All housing on campus has A/C, but it does vary if it is a central air or a window unit. Check out your halls page to find more information!

Should I bring a fan?

That’s up to you! Lots of residents bring a fan and store it underneath their bed when not in use.

What items can I and what can I not bring to move-in?

Bring everything you need for move in and anyone who is helping you move-in but your pets should stay home as they are not permitted within campus housing.

Roommates

Information about living with another person!

How and when will I get assigned a room and roommate?

Roommates are matched using the responses from your housing application and roommate preferences form, which must be submitted on time and accurately. Learn more about housing assignments here.

Your room assignment and your roommate information will be available typically in early August for Fall arrivals and early January for Spring arrivals. Contact information for your roommate will be provided to you at that time, and we encourage you to contact your roommate to begin the process of getting to know each other and to coordinate who will bring specific items. You should also discuss how you will share expenses such as room carpeting and/or a micro-fridge.

Please read this information if you plan to request a roommate, as there are situations that may keep us from honoring your request. We encourage you to not feel any pressure or stress to find a roommate as this is simply an option for some who connect with someone prior to arriving at Dickinson. For any questions about this process, contact Residence Life & Housing at reslife@dickinson.edu or 717-245-1556.

Why should I fill out the roommate agreement?

Your roommate agreement is to help you communicate with your roommate about living together; rules, expectations for your shared spaces, how to communicate with your roommate, and much more!

Get to know your roommate! Find resources about getting to know your roommate here.

Residence Life

Information about living on campus!

What is ResLife Staff? And who is my RA?

Residence Life and Housing Staff is made up of 52 student staff members and 4 professional staff members! We are here to help you thrive and find your community! We are:

  • 39 Resident Assistants (RAs) within Morgan Field and the Quads
  • 8 House and Apartment Managers (HAMs)
  • 5 Community Assistants (CAs)!

Our RAs oversee all residents living in our traditional residence halls. They host programs, assist with community living, and serve in an on-call rotation during the academic year. They help with emergency situations, lock outs, noise complaints, and much more while on call!

Our HAMs lead our houses and apartment community for our upper-class students; they host programs, help with roommate mediations, and much more!

Our CAs are student leaders within the residence life staff and help pro-staff with everything from roommate mediations, programming, on call, and much more!

Your ResLife student staff member will share their email and name with you at the beginning of the year. Our first-year students will have their first-floor meeting with their RA during orientation and get to know their floor and guidelines and expectations of living in a hall.

Where and how can I do laundry?

You can find out where your building’s laundry is on the homepage of that residence!

Do you offer storage over the break or summer?

°µÍø½ûÇø does not provide any on-site storage facilities for students looking to store personal items between semesters or during the summer. More information about storage can be found here.

Can I have a car on campus?

First year students are not permitted to have cars on campus. Parking information can be found here.

What if my lights go out? How do I submit a work order?

We ask that all residents submit their own work order, so they receive updates from facilities management. Students can submit a work order via their Gateway Portal. More information about work orders can be found here.

What if I lose my key?

Any member of the campus community who loses a key should immediately contact the Department of Public Safety at 717-245-1349 after business hours. If you lose a key Monday through Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm please stop by the Campus Life Office located in the lower-level of the HUB.

DPS/Campus Life will notify Facilities, and a member of our staff will reach out to arrange for lock changes and/or issuing new keys. Lock change charges will be issued to your student account.

What and when are quiet hours?

To support your academic success, the college maintains both quiet hours and courtesy hours in all residences. Courtesy hours means that residents are prohibited from making noise that significantly disturbs other residents, including those in the Carlisle community. During quiet hours, noise should not be heard outside your room, suite or apartment.

Quiet hours are as follows:

  • Sunday through Thursday, 10:00 pm until 8:00 am the following morning
  • Friday and Saturday, midnight until 10:00 am the following morning

Quiet hours are in effect 24 hours a day during Reading Periods and Final Exams. Any disturbance of the larger community (floor, building, or neighbors) is not permitted during these times.

What if someone is not following quiet hours?

You can call the RA On Call! On Call phone numbers are available on the poster in your residence hall. If there is a noise complaint during the day or in our Houses and Apartment community, please call DPS at 717-245-1349.
