August 2025
Welcome to Dickinson!
There will be a lot for you to do in the upcoming weeks to prepare for your arrival on campus. Watch for weekly emails listing three things for you to do or know for that week. Those action items will also be posted here for reference.
QUESTIONS?
Reach out to orientation@dickinson.edu anytime if you have questions.
Three Things for Aug. 6
Roommate & Housing Assignments.
Your housing assignment and roommate(s) information are now available to be viewed in your Housing Portal! Go to the Dickinson Gateway and select the "Housing" icon. Once you review your information, check out the Residence Life & Housing website for some great first-year roommate resources, including icebreaker questions to help you get to know each other. Connect with your roommate and check out the specifications on your room and res hall!
Vehicle Policy for First-Year Students.
Just a reminder that first-year students are not permitted to bring a vehicle to campus or the Carlisle area per the first-year parking policy. Exceptions include medical (with documentation/requests from ADS), off-campus employment (with submission of a pay stub), and athletics (golf and equestrian team ONLY). Other exceptions may be considered.
- Requests for exceptions must be submitted through this form (2024-25 exception applications WILL NOT be available until August 4, 2025)
- Requests for exceptions for medical reasons may require the submission of documents from your health care provider. Public Safety may consult with Access & Disability Services for requests of this type.
In the event a first-year student is granted permission to possess a vehicle on campus, they will be restricted to park in the farthest west end of the West Kline Center Lot only and will receive a green tag to designate their first-year status. They may not park their vehicle anywhere else on campus or on public streets per the first-year parking policy. Violating this policy could result in parking fines and having their parking exception revoked.
Extended Orientation.
Mark your calendars now for your extended orientation sessions. All new students must participate in four weeks of extended orientation. This is to support your continued transition to college life. The sessions will be held each Thursday from Sept. 4-25 from noon to 1 p.m. Don’t worry, no classes are held during this time, which is known as Common Hour.
Extended orientation is hosted by staff at the Wellness Center. These interactive presentations (which include prizes) will cover common issues that often impact students during the first few weeks of their first year in college. Topics include:
- Partying Smart
- Healthy Communication
- Stress and Anxiety reduction during your College Transition
- Health and Wellbeing @ College
More information will be shared during Orientation.

SOAR into your first semester by tapping into academic support resources!
Right from the start, the way you manage your time and form study habits in college can have a big impact on your academic success.
Right from the start, the way you manage your time and form study habits in college can have a big impact on your academic success. Here are “three things” you can do improve your odds of having a great first semester:
- Check out the SOAR (Strategies, Organization, and Achievement Resources) webpage: . You’ll find a treasure trove of useful resources, including a weekly planner, semester calendar, and lots of tips, apps, and other tools to support your time management, study strategies, note-taking, test prep, and much more.
- Plan to attend the always popular “Secrets to Academic Success REVEALED!” session during Orientation on Sunday, Sept. 1st, at either noon or 1 PM.
- Once the semester starts, you can request academic task-tackling and planning support from a SOAR time-management strategist by emailing SOAR@dickinson.edu, or by coming to Old West, Lower Level (aka “the OWLL”) where you can also pick up a wealth of academic success resources. Remember, you can go to the OWLL to SOAR!
Three Things for Aug. 20
Prepare for move-in day.
The primary move-in day is on Wednesday, Aug. 27:
• Utilize our driving directions, follow the signage and proceed directly to your residence hall.
• Take advantage of  student help with move-in as you check in, move your belongings, offer advice and directions and tell you all about "Green Move-in."
• Mark your boxes, bags and bins with your name, residence hall and room number so it all gets delivered to the right place.
• Visit the All-College Information Tents on Morgan Field (10 a.m. – noon) to meet representatives from departments around campus and pick up some information!
Orientation ends on Sunday with Convocation, our tradition of signing in to the college. Share this link with your family and friends so they can tune in to the livestream: dickinson.edu/convocation.
Get the app.
New students should download the Corq app and find their Event Pass to check into events throughout Orientation and beyond. Corq allows students to add events to their calendars, explore campus groups and offices, and even has each session mapped out using Google Maps to help you find your place at Dickinson.
• Download the Corq app (in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store).
• Log into the app with your Dickinson username and password (for help, click here).
• Open your options and select “Event Pass.”
From there, you can save it to Google Pay or your Apple Wallet or take a screenshot. The event pass is specific to you but will stay the same for your entire Dickinson experience.
Socialize with #dsonphotos!
A variety of college social media accounts will be posting throughout move-in and Orientation, so we encourage you to follow along and join the conversation by including #dsonphotos in your posts.
