Professor Dixit is currently in training to become a Jungian Psychoanalyst while she completes her PhD. Her research looks at the internal variables of resilience and amplification strategies of known factors to contribute to the overall situational and longitudinal well-being of South-Asian women across the globe. She is also a keynote speaker and meditation and Compassion Care practitioner and instructor. She has consulted with various healthcare, tech and governmental organizations facilitating mindfulness workshops to foster a culture of growth and decrease burnout. Her background is in medicine, and she runs an international medical nonprofit that conducts medical missions and other capacity building projects in over 12 countries.
HEST 110 Medical Terminology
This course provides an intensive introduction to the language of medicine for students preparing for allied health and medical professions. Students learn the structure and meaning of medical terminology through the study of prefixes, suffixes, root words, and combining forms related to major body systems, diagnostics, clinical procedures, and pharmacology. Emphasis is placed on accurate pronunciation, spelling, interpretation, and contextual use of medical language in health-care settings.
Designed as a foundational course, Medical Terminology supports students’ early preparation for advanced coursework and clinical experiences in fields such as nursing, physician assistant studies, physical therapy, occupational therapy, public health, and related health professions.
PSYC 165 Psychopathology
An introduction to various psychological disorders and techniques of diagnosis and treatment. Relevant for students who anticipate careers in medicine, law, and the social or psychological services. This course is a Health Studies elective.
HEST 111 Nutrition
This course introduces the principles of human nutrition with an emphasis on the biochemical, physiological, and clinical aspects relevant to health care practice. Topics include the chemical properties, digestion, absorption, metabolism, functions, and dietary sources of macronutrients (carbohydrates, lipids, proteins) and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, and trace elements). The role of nutrition in energy balance, growth, maintenance, and disease prevention is explored, along with current dietary guidelines and evidence-based recommendations. Students will apply concepts through case studies that link nutrition to patient care, clinical assessment, and wellness promotion. This course is designed for students preparing for admission to allied health programs such as nursing, physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and other health-related fields.
